Oblivion's Constructed Fall...

I arrived in Oblivion
and tried to get out
by figuring out where
or what this place was

So I treated it
like every other place
that anyone had ever been

I looked for the tallest building
so I could see what mattered most here
I asked who hired all the best artists
so I could know who mattered most here

I watched what they all did for amusement
and began to see this people's soul
I witnessed what they did under inducement
to see the depths of their collective hole

and all too soon it was all too clear
that this was the same oblivion as everywhere

They had the same kind of mind
that every culture stole from the Greeks
They had the same bodies of men
that every culture stole from the Romans
They had the same kind of soul
that every culture received from the Vikings

and like every other oblivion elsewhere and before
they would find the same oblivious fate in store

Their buildings would all crumble
Their rulers would all die
Their artists would go broke
Their mothers' eyes would cry
as their oblivion's great wall
was constructed like every other
oblivion's constructed fall

I tried to leave oblivion
after realizing where and what
this place was

But by then I had gone too far in
and there was nowhere left to go
Now that is my eternal sin
and the source of all my woe

For here in oblivion
I'm very much at home
With my Greek-man's thoughts to think
With my Roman body to keep
and my Viking soul
forever yearning
to venture beyond
the endless horizons
of these vast
oblivious lands
