Umbra, Penumbra, and Antumbra...

Umbra
When the light appears as
if it has been swallowed
by whatever has come
between the eyes
and the source of
some illumination
& the darkness
seems to
glow
it's not
that the light
has vanished
but that the eyes
have become too aligned
with some obstructive mass
that makes the light seem maligned
in the course of its passing

Penumbra
As things drift and shift
along perpetual lines
the light peaks out
growing in scope
and promising
to illuminate
our vision
yet again
as our eyes
respond
by
contracting
strained pupils
and allowing light
to filter through the
darkened centers of our
opened & wondering eyes
that glisten & yearn to gleam
in the waxing brilliance of light

Antumbra
On rare
& special
occasions
at the proper
distance away
the dark center
is enveloped inside
the radiance of light
at such great intensity
that our wide eyes
must not stare
directly into
the polarity
of shadow
and light
aligned
to our
view
